Dr.Bill Mobile App
Dr.Bill is a medical billing platform for physicians and medical practitioners. As the sole designer on the mobile app team from 2023 -2025, I was focused on improving the claim creation process for physicians on the go, in collaboration with Product, Engineering, Operations and Customer Success partners.

Claim Creation Is Repetitive
Once physicians have been billing for a while, they are familiar with the codes they need and will often regularly use only a handful that depend on the type of work they are doing. They are creating similar claims constantly and want a way to make this process easier. Below are some of the features I was responsible for.
LIVE FEATURE
Find billing codes faster with Quickpicks
QuickPicks is a feature aimed at improving claim creation by giving physicians easier access to their billing codes directly on the claim form.

The previous claim creation flow took users to a separate page where they had to search for a billing code. This new flow helps reduce the time and effort it takes to create a claim by putting relevant codes directly on the claim form. Using QuickPicks is not required to create a claim (i.e users still have access to search if they need it), so the engagement was a good indication of the value users received from it. The iOS MVP had a 55% adoption rate.

LIVE FEATURE
Select frequently used codes
This was a fast follow to the Quickpicks MVP release based on adoption and physician interviews that added a Frequently Used codes category on iOS. The north star of this feature is a customizable library of billing code templates that physicians always have easy access to, and are tailored to their specific working style - whether doing rounds, working in multiple hospitals or more.

UNSUCCESSFUL FEATURE
Swipe to add new claim
We experimented a lot to improve access to claim creation in other parts of the app. This one was a new entry point located in a high traffic area of the app, the patient list. This particular experiment was not as successful as we hoped, as the list item swipe functionality can be considered a hidden pattern on iOS. Future iterations could include ways to improve its visibility.

Before we released Quickpicks MVP, users on the mobile app were only able to add one billing code at a time to a claim due to legacy technical restrictions. Multi-select was scoped as a pre-requisite to the Quickpicks feature, and we were able to provide incremental value to the users even before the MVP rolled out.
